The word tinku means encounter; this traditional dance and musical rhythm born in the northern Potosí region and in the southern part of Oruro. In this ritual dance natives of different towns arrive to the encounter and fight against eachother; with their blood they offer a tribute to the mother earth (Pachamama) asking for abundance and fertility.
This rhythm is generally played with a tuning called quimsa temple and choirs of women with high-pitched voices.
